12 Simple Ways to Incorporate Reiki Into Your Self-Care Routine | For Our Practitioners

How to incorporate Reiki into your daily routine to experience more connection, clarity, peace, and well-being throughout the day.
We’ve all heard the tale of the burned-out healer who is so focused on helping others that they, themselves, become depleted and unwell. Perhaps you’ve even been there yourself.
Facilitating healing and restorative experiences can be an incredibly fulfilling path, but as any Reiki practitioner knows, having a solid toolkit of self-care practices is essential to the wellness of both practitioner and client. Whether you have a defined self-care routine or prefer more of a laissez-faire approach, it’s important to have habits in your day-to-day that nourish your body, mind, and spirit and leave you feeling recharged.
As a Reiki practitioner, you’re aware of Reiki’s healing benefits – but you might be surprised to know how many ways you can incorporate Reiki into your daily routine. In this post, we’ll share some ways that you can bring Reiki into your existing self-care practices or use Reiki to create new practices altogether. By integrating Reiki into your morning, afternoon, and nighttime routines, you’ll be continually refilling your cup so you can feel more grounded, peaceful, connected, and restored all day, every day.
Start the Day Strong
Here are some ways you can bring Reiki into your morning routine to start your day off with clear intentions and grounded energy.
-
- Awaken with Reiki. While you’re still cozy in bed, take some time to connect with your body and tune into the sensations you’re feeling. Give Reiki to each of your Chakras, beginning at your crown and spending more time on those who need a little extra love. You can draw your symbols in your palms with your fingertips for a more powerful treatment, or to address specific issues. Keep going until you’ve filled your cup.
-
- Meditate with Reiki. If you already start your day with a meditation, consider using one or all of the five Reiki precepts as a mantra. Simply repeat your chosen mantra, inwardly or outwardly, to allow the words to integrate. You may also draw one or more Reiki symbols and place them near you, fixing your gaze on them then keeping them in your mind as you sink into a meditative space.
-
- Give your coffee an extra boost. Place your hands around your coffee (or whatever beverage is part of your morning routine) and send Reiki. You can also do this with your water before your drink it. When you take a sip, you absorb this positive, loving energy.
-
- Infuse a crystal companion. Send Reiki into a crystal and carry it with you, or place it on your Reiki Grid with the intention to continue sending until you are able to return and recharge the crystal. Try to recharge it every 24 hours.
Side-note: What’s a Reiki Grid?
A Reiki Grid, in essence, is a dedicated space—be it a notebook, stack of paper, or even an artistic piece—where you list names, places, things, or anything else you’d like to send Reiki to. Your Reiki Grid allows you to send Reiki to multiple recipients at the same time.
By charging your grid crystal daily, you’re setting a conscious intention to send healing energy to everything on your grid for the next 24 hours, or until your next crystal charging session. This makes it a wonderful method for broad-scale, consistent healing work. You can learn more about it here.
Daytime Practices
While we’d all like to avoid mid-day slumps and stresses, dips in energy and challenging moments are part of the flow of life. Infusing your day with Reiki will help you navigate the ups and downs with more peace, ease, and tranquility. Here are some Reiki practices you can use throughout the day.
-
- Create a Reiki altar. Create a space with Reiki reminders that you can look at throughout your day. Don’t worry, this doesn’t have to be extravagant! It could be as simple as drawing a Reiki symbol or a daily intention on a sticky note and placing it on the edge of your computer screen. Or you could go all out and make a work of art out of Reiki symbols, frame it, place it on your desk, and surround it with crystals and rocks and feathers. You do you.
-
- Make your lunch break more nourishing. Send loving Reiki energy into your meal before you eat it, and try to be present with your food. Some things you might think or say to ground yourself in the present are, “I thank this food for the nourishing and stable energy it will give me,” or “I am thankful for all of the hands that went into the making of this meal; I feel how connected we all truly are.” Or even “I honor the wisdom of my body and respect its hunger and fullness messages. I trust my body will receive everything it needs from the meal and release what it doesn’t need.”
-
- Put a houseplant on your desk. Give it a name. Start loving on it daily. Send loving and healing energy to the plant, and enjoy that same energy being reflected back to you.
-
- Remember to pause. Take breaks throughout the day to breathe deeply and do a quick body scan. Close your eyes, and notice the continuous flow of energy from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.
Nighttime Rituals
Evening is where many of us feel we can fully let go, wind down, and decompress from the day. Integrating Reiki can help you fully absorb the benefits of a relaxing nighttime routine, so that you can wake up feeling rested and recharged. Here are some ways to seamlessly integrate Reiki into your evenings.
-
- Take a Reiki bath. Give your bath a boost with Reiki by sending loving energy to the bath and bathing space while you draw your bath, and drawing Reiki symbols in the air above the tub. You can also infuse bath salts or body oils with Reiki by placing your hands near them and allowing Reiki energy to flow into them.
-
- Journal with the five precepts. Journaling at the end of the day is an amazing way to tie up any loose ends that might be floating around in your mind. The precepts are an amazing addition to this process. Simply write down each one, and then reflect on how you embodied each one. Maybe you didn’t embody one or all of them – in that case it’s an amazing time to practice deep self-compassion as you remember that life is not about being perfect or always having everything go “right”; it’s about developing loving awareness and recognizing that each experience is an opportunity to learn, grow, and heal.
-
- Set your bed space. Set the stage for a restful slumber by placing your hands over your bed and sending Reiki energy to the space. Set an intention for deep sleep, for messages from the subconscious to come through with clarity, or for anything else you need that night.
-
- Give yourself a self-session. Either lying in bed or in a comfortable seated position, give yourself a Reiki self-session by sending restful and healing energy to each of the seven chakras (although if you’re anything like us, you might fall asleep before you’ve gotten to each Chakra.) As you complete your session, notice how each part of your body feels and restore any energy that you lost throughout the day. Focus on the feeling of wholeness and presence as you relax into surrender. Give yourself respect and gratitude for showing up today and remind yourself that today, you did the very best you could do. And that’s more than enough.
It’s not about adding more; it’s about fully receiving what’s already there.
We all know that self-care is essential for our highest well-being. Especially as a Reiki practitioner, it’s vitally important to keep your cup full with the help of loving and supportive habits. But adding Reiki to your day doesn’t have to feel burdensome, or like you’re adding another thing to your to-do list. You are simply opening yourself up to the healing energy that is always been available to you.
Reiki can flow seamlessly into your current self-care practices and enhance the positive benefits of your already-existing routine. You may want to integrate all of the practices shared above, or perhaps just one or two – you can tailor it to your life and needs. But whatever you choose to do, just know that incorporating Reiki into your day is the ultimate act of self-care, enabling you to show up as your best, most complete self. To share a quote from our interview with Dianne Thomas:
“People often overlook the beautifully simple truth of Reiki: It always flows through you before being shared with others. In giving a treatment, you’re also receiving a treatment. And that’s Reiki teaching you to fill your own cup first.”
So, let’s fill that cup. And if you feel that you need something more, even Reiki practitioners can use a good professional Reiki treatment sometimes. Click here to book a session today with one of our incredible Reiki masters!
