If you feel called to contribute, simply reach out and send us your meditation. You can record using video or voice-only, depending on what feels most aligned for you (voice-only recordings are often easier to work with and upload).

Once your meditation is ready, email it to us along with a title and a short description, and we’ll take care of the rest. Your meditation will be added to the library and a link to your Dragonfly profile will show at the end of the video.

General Guidelines

To help ensure your meditation can be shared widely and clearly, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines.

Please record your meditation without background music, as we will add licensed music during preparation. This allows your meditation to be shared legally and ensures the audio can be balanced properly.

You are encouraged to create in a way that feels natural to you. There is no required format or structure — your meditation can focus on relaxation, healing, chakra work, animals, life events, or any area you feel guided toward. You are also welcome to incorporate other healing modalities.

There is no required length for your meditation. Choose a duration that feels right for the experience you are creating.

When recording, aim for a quiet environment with minimal background noise or distractions. Smaller, soft spaces often help reduce echo and create clearer sound.

How to Record Your Meditation

Creating a meditation for the Dragonfly Meditation Library doesn’t require professional equipment — just a clear voice, a quiet space, and a simple setup that works for you. This guide will walk you through a few easy ways to record your meditation, along with tips to help you create a high-quality recording.

Choosing a Recording Method

There are several ways you can record your meditation, depending on what device you’re most comfortable using.

You can use Zoom by starting a new meeting and recording your meditation. Once finished, you can save the recording as an audio file. This is a simple and reliable option, especially if you’re already familiar with Zoom.

If you prefer using your phone, both Android and iPhone devices have great built-in options.

You’re also welcome to use any other recording device, as long as the audio is clear and easy to hear.

Recording Video Meditations

If you’re recording a video meditation using a laptop or webcam, you can use tools like OBS Studio or Zoom to capture your recording.

A few simple adjustments can make a big difference in how your video looks and feels. Position your camera at eye level to create a natural, comfortable angle. Keep your background calm and free of distractions so the focus remains on your guidance. Good lighting is also important — natural light works well, or you can use a ring light to ensure your face is clearly visible.

If you have access to a microphone, it will improve sound quality, but if not, simply speak clearly toward your device and avoid being too close to prevent distortion.

Sound Quality Tips

Clear audio is one of the most important parts of a meditation. Even small adjustments can greatly improve the listener’s experience.

Try to keep your microphone close enough to capture your voice clearly, but not so close that it causes distortion. Before recording your full meditation, it’s always a good idea to do a short test to check your volume and clarity.

Recording in a quiet space is key. Close windows, turn off fans, and minimize background noise as much as possible. Soft surfaces like blankets, pillows, or carpets can help absorb sound and reduce echo, especially in smaller rooms.

Video Orientation Guidelines

If you’re recording video, the orientation of your camera matters depending on how the meditation will be used.

For full-length meditations or anything intended for platforms like YouTube, a landscape (horizontal) format is recommended. This creates a more natural viewing experience.

For short clips or social media content (typically under 30 seconds), a vertical (portrait) format works best for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook Stories.

Adding a Personal Introduction (Optional)

If you feel comfortable, you’re welcome to include a short introduction at the beginning of your meditation. This can be a brief moment where you introduce yourself and share what the meditation is about.

This is completely optional, but it can add a personal touch and help listeners feel more connected to you and your work.

Conclusion

Recording your meditation doesn’t need to be complicated. With a simple setup, a quiet space, and a bit of preparation, you can create a clear and meaningful experience for your listeners. Focus on sharing your voice and intention — the technical pieces can be kept simple and supportive along the way.

Recording Meditations: Why No Background Music

When creating meditations for the Dragonfly Meditation Library, please record voice-only. This allows your meditation to be shared legally and ensures the audio is clear and balanced for listeners.

Why Background Music Can Be a Problem

Many people assume that “royalty-free” music is free to use, but in reality, it often requires a paid license. Using music without proper permission can result in videos being flagged or removed on platforms like YouTube, which could prevent your meditation from being shared publicly.

Additionally, when music is already included in your recording, it can be difficult to balance the voice and background sound. Your voice may come across too quietly or unevenly, affecting the listener’s experience. Recording voice-only gives Dragonfly the ability to safely add licensed music, ensuring your meditation can reach a wider audience.

Understanding Royalty Music vs. Royalty-Free Music

Royalty music usually requires ongoing payments and cannot be redistributed without permission. Royalty-free music requires a one-time license, but it is not free — restrictions and attribution may still apply. Recording voice-only ensures that any music added is legally compliant and that your meditation can be shared publicly.

What to Do If You’ve Already Recorded with Music

If your meditation already includes background music, that’s okay — it happens.

If you have a version without music, we will use that for the Meditation Library.

If not, you’re welcome to provide us with a link to the music used so we can review the licensing terms. In rare cases, the music may only require proper attribution to the creator.

However, if the music requires a paid license or has restrictions that prevent us from legally sharing or redistributing it, we will not be able to accept the meditation. This is to ensure we are protecting both you and Dragonfly from potential copyright issues.

For future recordings, we recommend recording voice-only, and we will take care of adding properly licensed music during preparation.

Conclusion

Recording voice-only meditations ensures your work can be shared legally, sound clear, and reach the widest audience. Follow these guidelines to protect your meditation and Dragonfly’s ability to share it, while still creating in the way that reflects your unique energy.
